Nine Paintings

Joel Sager is an artist living in Columbia, Missouri.  He uses a mixed-media process involving oil pigment, tar, and collage of vintage wallpaper or material.  His subject matter consists of portraiture and still-life, placed within the confines of interior spaces with stylistic influences ranging from folk art to mannerism.  On a figurative level, his work explores themes of existence and loss in the context of nostalgia, and it places the viewer in a narrative of voyeurism.  Joel is represented by Perlow-Stevens Gallery and has shown nationally and internationally.
